# Direct Messages (DMs)

Direct Messages (DMs) allow Team Members to communicate securely in private channels that are **not tied to a patient profile**. They can be one-to-one or involve multiple Team Members.

### 💬 What are Direct Messages?

- A **private channel for Team Members only**.
- Can be **2 or more participants**.
- Not connected to a patient record.
- Ideal for coordination, quick discussions, or sharing updates internally.

### 🛠️ How to Start a Direct Message

1. Open the **Message Centre** in the Staff Portal.
2. Go to the **Direct Messages** section.
3. Click the **➕ (plus) button**.
4. Search for and select the Team Member(s) you’d like to include.
5. ✅ A DM channel will be created and appear in all selected participants’ Message Centre lists.

### 🔒 Privacy & Security

- Only Team Members added to the DM can see its content.
- DMs are secure and compliant, just like other channel types.
- 🚫 DMs are **not logged** in patient records, since they are not patient-related.
