Group Programs vs Patient Groups
Wellifiy offers two distinct but complementary features — Patient Groups and Group Programs — to support personalised care delivery and structured group-based interventions. While both involve managing groups of patients, they serve very different functions. If you're wondering which one you need, here's how they compare.
🔹 Patient Groups: Configure What Patients See and Can Do
Patient Groups define the experience a patient has when they log in to the Patient App or Patient Web Portal.
Key uses:
- Content access – which sections (e.g. Watch, Listen, Boost, Sleep, Tools & Resources) and which specific Content Modules the patient can access
- Booking options (if self-booking is enabled) – which Bookable Services and Bookable Providers the patient can book with
- App configuration – tailor the platform experience to the patient's cohort (e.g. perinatal, AOD recovery, pain management), including Crisis Support Services
🔒 A patient must be in a Patient Group and can only belong to one Patient Group at a time. This ensures a clear and consistent app experience per cohort.

🔹 Group Programs: Schedule and Manage Structured Group Care
Group Programs are used for running scheduled, structured group sessions — such as group therapy, workshops, or educational programs.
Key uses:
- Calendar-based sessions – create a schedule of Group Program Appointments patients attend together
- Attendance tracking – mark who attended each session
- Group Notes – write a single Case Note and apply it to all attendees (via Create Group Note on a session)
- Enrolment status management – each patient's status moves through Recommended, Waitlisted, Booked, Completed, or Did Not Complete. Moving a patient out of Booked removes their future sessions from their calendar and app view
- Automated Forms and Assessments – trigger items at each patient's Commencement and at Completion
✅ Patients can be enrolled in zero or multiple Group Programs at the same time — unlike Patient Groups.

🧩 Side by Side
| Patient Group | Group Program | |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Configure the patient's app experience | Deliver scheduled group care |
| Membership | Exactly one group per patient | Zero or multiple programs per patient |
| Drives | Content, booking options, app config, Crisis Support Services | Sessions, attendance, Group Notes, enrolment statuses |
| Typical example | "Perinatal" cohort sees perinatal content and providers | Eight-week group therapy program with weekly sessions |
In short: use Patient Groups to personalise what patients can see and do in the app, and Group Programs to schedule, deliver, and manage structured group care. Most Organisations use both together — a patient sits in one Patient Group and may attend several Group Programs over their care journey.
