How Patient Groups Differ from Group Programs
In Wellifiy, Patient Groups and Group Programs are both tools for managing groups of patients — but they serve very different purposes.
If you're wondering when to use a Patient Group vs a Group Program, here’s how they compare.
🧭 What Are Patient Groups For?
Patient Groups are used to configure what a patient sees and can do in the app. When you assign a patient to a group, you're defining the experience they’ll have when they log in.
Patient Groups control:
-
Modules and Content
Which sections (e.g. Watch, Listen, Boost, Sleep) and which specific content items are visible. -
Booking Options (if enabled)
Which service types and clinicians the patient can book appointments with. -
General App Configuration
Tailor the platform experience based on the patient’s cohort (e.g. perinatal, AOD recovery, pain management, etc.)
🔒 A patient must be in a Patient Group and can only be assigned to one Patient Group at a time. This ensures clarity and consistency in what they see and access.
🔄 How Are Group Programs Different?
Group Programs are used for delivering structured, scheduled care — such as group therapy sessions, workshops, or educational programs.
Group Programs include:
-
Scheduled Appointments
Create a calendar of sessions patients attend together. -
Video Calls
Add a “Join” button to the app so patients can attend sessions virtually. -
Attendance Tracking
Mark who showed up to each session. -
Group Notes
Write a shared case note and apply it to all attendees. -
Status Management
Change a patient’s status to Completed or Cancelled to remove upcoming sessions from their view.
✅ Patients can be in zero or multiple Group Programs at the same time — unlike Patient Groups.
In short:
Use Patient Groups to personalise what patients can see and do in the app.
Use Group Programs to schedule, deliver, and manage structured group care.
